Breaking and entering response leads to firearm arrest

On April 25, 2025, officers from the Kinston Police Department’s C-Squad responded to a report of a possible breaking and entering in the 700 block of Marilyn Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed 24-year-old Jakeithan Gowans placing a window screen back onto a window.

As officers approached, they noticed Gowans appeared to be concealing an item in his waistband. Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of a concealed semi-automatic shotgun equipped with an extended magazine.

Gowans was taken into custody without incident and charged with Felony Carrying a Concealed Gun. Officers also served Gowans with an outstanding unrelated Order for Arrest. The reporting party declined to pursue charges related to the breaking and entering, citing a family relationship with Gowans.

The Kinston Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community and appreciates the continued cooperation of our residents.
