First Sergeant T. Lee Howell Bridge dedication ceremony held in Kinston
The North Carolina Department of Transportation held a bridge dedication ceremony Friday honoring First Sergeant T. Lee Howell.
The ceremony took place at the Kinston Lenoir Performing Arts Center. The bridge on N.C. 11 over Contentnea Creek at the Lenoir and Pitt county line was officially dedicated in Howell’s name.
Howell began his career as a Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officer in 1994 and later served as first sergeant with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol’s Motor Carrier Enforcement Section. He served the citizens of North Carolina until contracting COVID-19 in the line of duty. Howell died from complications related to the illness on Jan. 7, 2021.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, Howell was assigned to Troop A, District 9. He is survived by his daughters, mother, and brother.
