City of Kinston postpones swearing-in ceremony for newly elected officials
The City of Kinston has postponed its swearing-in ceremony for newly elected officials. The ceremony was originally scheduled for December 2 but has been moved to December 16, according to the city’s public information officer.
“The [December] second will be a regular meeting,” said City of Kinston Public Information officer Sharon Mervin. “There will be a few items to discuss, then it will be recessed until the 16th for the ceremonial portion.”
The delay follows multiple election protests, challenges, and a pending appeal related to the November municipal election.
Councilman-elect Sammy Aiken said, “I am ready to go to work for Kinston’s citizens, asap.”
