Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests and Recovery of Burnt Copper

On November 28, 2025, a C Shift deputy conducted a traffic stop near Jim Sutton Road and U.S. Highway 70. The occupants, Virginia Stancil and Bobby Thomas, were investigated after deputies confirmed Thomas had outstanding warrants.

K-9 Chaos alerted on the vehicle, leading to a search that uncovered drug paraphernalia, methamphetamine, and approximately 40 pounds of burnt copper. The origin of the copper is still under investigation.

Both individuals were arrested and taken to the Lenoir County Magistrate’s Office.
