Coastal low, heavy rain expected tomorrow
Key Messages
Heavy rainfall is expected to accompany this system, especially for immediate coastal locales where some embedded thunderstorms are possible. Up to 2" with locally higher amounts are forecast here, with 1-2" elsewhere.
A few strong thunderstorms are possible. Most of this activity should remain offshore, but there is a low chance (10-20%) a supercell could drift onshore posing a threat for gusty winds or a brief tornado
Cooler nearshore waters will keep winds low enough to mitigate any impactful coastal flooding. However, the presence of king tides and rough surf, especially between Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout, could pose an overwash risk to Highway 12 especially in areas with vulnerable dune structures.
