Obituary: Ms. Janice Eason Sellers
Ms. Janice Eason Sellers, age 87, passed away late Tuesday evening, November 25, 2025, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. Born November 16, 1938, she was the daughter of John Ivey and Carrie West Eason. Janice was reared on the family farm in the Bullhead Community of Greene County.
Following graduation from the Walstonburg High School, she continued her education at Atlantic Christian College (today Barton College) where she completed her undergraduate studies. An educator, she taught at several high schools including Charles B Aycock and East Carteret before finishing her teaching career at North Lenoir High School where she taught Spanish and History. She then went back to school herself earning two masters degrees from East Carolina University. Janice then was employed by the NC Department of Corrections Adult Probation/Parole where she retired in 1996. She was also past president of the Lenoir County Chapter of the AARP. Janice never stopped learning and was an avid reader, enjoyed photography, and loved crossword puzzles (the difficult ones).
Surviving is her son, Mike Garriss and wife Rose of La Grange; granddaughters, Carrie Garriss Nicholson and husband Brandon of Grimesland, and Leslie Garriss Craft and husband John of Kinston; and great-grandchildren, Tanner Nicholson, Stokes Nicholson, Emmaline Nicholson, and Dawson Maroules.
Funeral Services will be held privately by the graveside at the historic St. Barnabas Cemetery in Snow Hill where Janice will be laid to rest on the Eason Family lot.
