Veterans Art Show celebrates service and creativity in Kinston
The Kinston Community Council for the Arts hosted its annual Veterans Art Show on November 11, honoring local veterans through an evening of visual and performance art. The event, organized by local veteran Creed Piel, featured a diverse collection of work reflecting the experiences, emotions, and perspectives of those who have served.
The artist reception began at 6:00 p.m., drawing a strong community turnout in support of Kinston’s veteran artists. Artists whose works were in the exhibit included Creed Piel, Terry Malpass, Dean Bock, Tyler Nute, Jeff Stephens, Tony Jackson, Stanley Sullivan and Jack McCowan. Catering was done by local chef, Julie Babbin.
Jeffrey Wiliford, Director of the Community Council for the Arts, said the exhibit was both moving and memorable.
“Hosting the Veterans Art Show at the Community Council for the Arts was an incredible experience. The creativity and emotion expressed by our local veterans through their art and performances were powerful reminders of their service and spirit. We were thrilled by the community turnout and support,” Wiliford said.
Participating veteran artists shared similar sentiments. Dean Bock, one of the featured artists, said he enjoyed the opportunity to see the different ways veterans interpret art.
“I like to see other veterans’ idea of what they think art is. That’s what I like to see,” Bock said. When asked if he plans to return next year, he added, “Yes, I would.”
