August 6, 1946 – October 8, 2025

La Grange- Sylvia Carr Grady Wetherington, 79, was called to her home in Heaven on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. Sylvia was born in Elm City to the late Dr. Evander Carr Grady and Barbara Haggard Grady on August 6, 1946.

Sylvia moved with her family to La Grange in 1951 and graduated from North Lenoir High School.

A devoted wife and mother, Sylvia was known for her love, creativity, and unwavering faith. An exceptional cook, she made the absolute best chocolate pie and cheese straws. Gifted with an artistic nature and a spirit that never gave up, she could accomplish anything around the home.

For her family, Sylvia was the light of their world. Her pleasant and happy demeaner never faded, regardless of the circumstances in which she found herself. Her life was a reflection of deep and abiding faith in the Lord. Sylvia was a true Christian soldier, steadfast in her walk with Christ, always marching forward in the army of the Lord.

A service to remember Sylvia’s life will be held by the graveside at Fairview Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025. The family will receive friends following the service.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Pete Wetherington; children, Grady Wetherington and wife, Maria, Lynn Price and husband, Lawrence, and Mary Ellen Wells and husband, Johnny; grandchildren, Connor Wetherington and fiancée, Cara, Blaine Wetherington and fiancé, Daniel, Kai Wells, Kree Wells, Zinnia Wells, and Sol Wells; and great-grandchildren, Ivey and Logan.
