AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 1111 formed at GI Joes Museum

On 4-8-2024 AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Chapter 1111 was chartered at GI Joes Military Museum in Kinston North Carolina.  This is the First AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary in Kinston.  The Members were sworn in by State Department Chair Doreen Wilburn and Registered by the State Secretary Linda Bonin. Membership in AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is open to mothers, wives, widows, grandmothers, sisters, daughters and granddaughters of AMVETS and female veteran who are currently serving or who have honorably served in the Armed Services of the United States, including the National Guard and Reserve components, any time after September 15m 1940.  

For more than 50 years, the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary has served veterans and their communities through programs such as the John Tracy Clinic (for hearing impaired and deaf children ages 18 months to 5 years): PAWS With a Cause (who trains Assistance Dogs for people with disabilities): Scholarships: St Jude’s Hospital for Children, Veterans Volunteer Services Programs and the Freedom Foundation just to mention a few.  

A network of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary members across the country provides teamwork for local volunteers. Volunteering is the heart of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary. Voluntary services are recognized through and extensive awards program both on the department and national level.  

Additional the AMVETS Ladies’ Auxiliary keeps an eye on all Capitol Hill legislation and aggressively pursues every congressional bill that is likely to affect veterans- to ensure there is no erosion of their entitlements.  Veterans health care, POW/MIA accountability, services for homeless veterans, national defense and foreign relations are all issues of importance to AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary and its parent organization AMVETS. 

The newly sworn in President of AMVETS Women’s Auxiliary Post 1111 is Hannah Mc Lawhorn.  Meetings will take place at 6:00 pm on the first Monday of each month at GI Joes Living History Museum.  If you are interested in becoming a member please contact the post through the Museum.  This is a wonderful opportunity to support AMVETS post 1111 and to assure the needs of Veterans throughout Lenoir County are met.
