Kinston Tobacco Shop break-In thwarted, two suspects apprehended

The Kinston Police Department posted the following on their Facebook page:

KPD's B-Squad Officers were dispatched to a report of a Breaking and Entering at the Tobacco & Vape shop located at 1308 W. Vernon Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and reviewed video footage showing two subjects attempting to enter the establishment, one wearing a paintball mask. During the attempt they triggering the audible alarm and ran from business. Officers saturated the area in an attempt to identify the subjects. Officers located the subjects at Mitchell Street and W. Peyton Avenue and they fled again. Officers continued to search the area and were provided information by citizens that saw the subjects and provided a direction of travel.

Officers located the subjects walking through the rear parking lot of Lovick’s Cafe. Officers converged on the subjects and both were placed in custody.

The subjects were identified as Joshua Barnes (22) and a 12 year old juvenile.

Barnes was placed in LCJ for the following:

-Attempted Breaking and Entering

-Resist, Obstruct, Delay

The juvenile was released to his grandmother and officers will seek juvenile petitions on a later date.
