Become Part of Maysville’s Legacy: Park Brick Fundraiser Launches

MAYSVILLE, NC - Become a part of history by contributing to the Community Historic and Educational Park and Monarch Butterfly Habitat. We invite families, local and international visitors, and anyone passionate about preserving Maysville’s rich history to support this endeavor.

The White Oak Jones-Onslow Community Basin Initiatives (WOJOCBInitiatives), a nonprofit organization with a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, proudly represents Maysville’s 28555 District. Committed to the ethos of being "of the people, by the people, for the people," this organization is distinct from government entities.

One of the key departments under WOJOCBInitiatives, the White Oak Historical Society, has taken up the mantle to curate the park. This space will reflect Maysville's history from the 1700s, showcasing the evolution of the town and surrounding communities. From farming, local businesses, and career evolution to the impact of organizations, outdoor lifestyles, individual contributions, and the shared ethic of hard work and wisdom, the park aims to be a comprehensive testament to the area's past.

Our immediate goal, Phase 1, is to secure the proposed park lot located at the intersection of 6th and Main St. The inaugural project within this phase will be the construction of the park's brick wall. However, nonprofits often face challenges in obtaining grants and funding for property acquisitions. As advised by North Carolina and Non-Profit Associations, nonprofits like ours should actively engage in fundraisers and solicit donations for property purchases.

To this end, we have launched an Engraved Brick Fundraiser. The funds raised will go towards the property purchase and the initiation of the park's brick pillar walls adorned with black iron rails. Each engraved brick, priced at $100, offers an opportunity to honor family history, cherished memories, and steadfast support for the 28555 Maysville District. Apart from this, general donations and sponsorships are highly welcomed.

While we have reached out to the Jones County government, Maysville’s government, and the Jones County Historical Society, and they recognize the immense value the Community Historic and Educational Park could add to the region, there's currently no funding available from their departments. As such, we're looking directly to our community for support.

Once we achieve the goals of Phase 1, we'll be in a position to tap into grants, foundation funds, and private investments to realize the complete vision for the park.
