LCC presents Matilda the Musical's children's ensemble

By Bailey Jones

Lenoir Community College will bring Matilda The Musical to life on the Turner Stage for two weekends this July beginning July 14. Matilda The Musical features a young, intelligent little girl with the gift of telekinesis who is determined to overcome her hardships. Throughout, Matilda overcomes many obstacles caused by her unsympathetic family and heinous headmistress, Ms. Trunchbull.

The show will be directed by Jessica Cruz, Lenoir Community College's Fine Arts Program Chair and Music Instructor. The show will be held July 14-16 and July 21-23 at LCC in the Briley Auditorium on the Turner Stage. This is one of many shows that will be a part of the performing arts series at LCC and you won’t want to miss this one! The title sponsor of Matilda The Musical is Neuse News.

Tickets are available now at www.lenoircc.edu/matilda. Ticket prices are as follows, accessible seating: $15, orchestra seating: $20, standard seating: $15, and student standard seating (ages 3-17; 18+ student ID required): $10.

The following individuals are part of the children’s ensemble.

Joely Davis, of Greenville, loves to sing, dance, and draw. Davis has performed in three plays at school. She enjoys being in Matilda the Musical saying “it’s so much fun!”

Lilyana Yannotti was born in Michigan but moved to Kinston in 2016. Yannotti is in the fourth grade at Banks Elementary School where she is in the Honors Chorus. She has enjoyed dancing for the past six years. Yannotti is outgoing and makes friends with everyone. She loves fashion and wants to be a fashion designer when she grows up. Her first on-stage experience was playing the lead role of Starr in Straight Outta Bethlehem at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church.

Wyatt Glenn Hudson was born in New York City, a stone's throw from the “Great White Way.” Since moving to North Carolina with his parents, Jay and Amanda, Hudson has been featured in multiple Storybook Theater productions at ECU. Last February, he made his official stage debut in Pippin at the ECU/Loessin Playhouse in the role of Theo. Most recently, Hudson played the role of Tiny Tim at the historic Turnage Theater in their retelling of A Christmas Carol. He is thrilled to be a part of this production and hopes everyone breaks a leg!

Eleanor Brewer is thrilled to return to the stage to join her brother and friends. Brewer has previously been seen in Lenoir Community College’s production of A Christmas Carol. She enjoys singing and dancing. Brewer is most excited to “ride her scooter in front of people” in Matilda the Musical.

New Bern native Oliver Ranieri will be in kindergarten at Ben D. Quinn Elementary School this fall. Ranieri’s mom had to work hard to convince him to return to the stage following his debut in Lenoir Community College’s A Christmas Carol. With much convincing, he finally agreed. Ranieri loves planes, trains, and automobiles, and he has awesome scooter skills.
