Obituary: Peggy Braxton Casey

Mrs. Peggy Braxton Casey, 84, of Summerville, SC formerly of Kinston, NC passed away on April 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.

Mrs. Casey was born on May 27, 1938 in Lenoir County, NC. to Julian and Oneta Braxton. Mrs. Casey grew up in Kinston, NC area where she met her husband, Bobby Lee Casey. They were married in March 1956. She was a devout Christian and loved her Lord. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Ayden, NC and attended Summerville Baptist Church-Downtown in Summerville, SC. Mrs. Casey devoted much of her time and talents in making her family and friends have a better life. Mrs. Casey had a keen eye for detail that, combined with vision and creativity, made her quite skilled at being a homemaker and having several business ventures. She had a ceramic shop and painted many beautiful cherished treasures. She was a remarkable seamstress throughout her life. She was manager of Fabrific Store in Kinston and had a sewing shop in Grifton with her sister, Elizabeth Smith. Mrs. Casey did alterations in her home and assisted with sewing therapeutic products for Clap Your Hands. Mrs. Casey was known for her warm smile and outgoing nature. She took a genuine interest in others and was always looking for ways to help them by being a good listener.

Mrs. Casey was a loving mother and is survived by her daughter and sons, Donna (Ken) Stovall of Winston-Salem, NC; Jimmy Casey of Surf City, NC; and Michael Casey (Candice Thomas) of Summerville, SC.; 5 grandchildren, Casey(Clay) Harrell; Jessica (Ryan) Blacher; David Casey; Bobby Casey (Mason Judy); Sammy Casey (Erin Anderson); 7 great-grandchildren, Brody Harrell, Caitlyn Harrell, Hudson Blacher, Beau Harrell, Landon Blacher, Eliza Blacher, and Taylor Casey, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Casey is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Lee Casey; grandson, Toby Casey; two sisters, Lillian Mason and Elizabeth Smith; 4 brothers; JB Braxton, Ned Braxton, Roy Braxton, and Burnie Braxton.

Celebration of life service was held on April 28, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Summerville Baptist Church Downtown in Summerville, SC. Visitation was at 10:00 a.m. prior to church service. Graveside service was held April 29, 2023 at the Grifton Cemetery in Grifton, NC.
