Butterfield subdivision plans to move forward with council approval

Kinston City Council approved an economic development agreement for the Butterfield subdivision to allow a developer reimbursement incentive up to $176,880. Butterfield subdivision is located off of Hardee Road, just north of Vernon Park Mall.

“I’m excited to hear that the Butterfield subdivision achieved life,” said Kinston Mayor Dontario Hardy. “I am looking forward to other developers who are looking to grow in our back yard.”

Ashley Elks, of AH Builders LLC, made the request of the city to accept the roads as city streets and that the city construct the water and sewer improvements. The estimated cost is $176,880. The approval is contingent on the completed project.

The project is expected to be completed in 18-24 months, including 32 lots in 2023, 48 lots in 2024, and 64 lots in 2025. Under the agreement, AH Builders will complete the public infrastructure.

“It’s going to be a very good thing for the City of Kinston,” said Hardy.

The agreement changes existing private streets and rights-of-ways to make them public and become part of the city street system. It also includes completion of the remaining water and sewer infrastructure for the requested lots.
