In 1897, an 8-year-old girl sent a simple question to the New York Sun:

Dear Editor,
I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says, "If you see it in the Sun, it's so." Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus?

The timeless reply reminded old and young alike the importance of believing. Here is just a piece of his reply:

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy.

It appears quite clear the magic of the holiday season is alive and well in Kinston! While people young and old alike begin to decorate and donate and come together to spread cheer and fund needs in our community, we may just see Santa Claus through their actions!
