SNOW HILL โ The strong play of the regular season for the Greene Central tennis team carried on in the conference tournament.
The Rams will have five players advancing to Regionals on Oct. 19 after Tuesdayโs Eastern Carolina Conference tournament, held at Greene Central. Coming off a 25th consecutive conference title, the Rams have Madison Holloman advancing to the postseason in singles, and in doubles the teams of Logan Wilson and McKinsey Harper, along with Alanna Head and Hinson Britt move on as well.
Holloman won the singles tournament, the Wilson-Harper tandem took the doubles crown and Head-Britt finished third. North Lenoirโs Abigail Ormond โ who finished third in singles โ will be the only other local representative to participate.
โItโs always great, trying to get as many as we can to Regionals,โ Greene Central coach Tim Medlin said. โItโs a very rewarding experience and great to see their hard work paying off.โ
Holloman is no stranger to Regionals, playing in her third one of her high school career. The senior is breaking new ground with this being her first singles appearance and said the dynamic will shift.
โI know thereโs more pressure on me in singles,โ Holloman said. โI just have to hit my shots, stay calm and donโt worry about the moment.โ
Wilson and Harper are making their debut appearances in Regionals. Wilson said the teamโs chemistry has been great all around, which has helped the duo immensely.
โAs a senior, we wanted to make sure we were all on the right page,โ Wilson said. โWe spent the summer doing a lot of team-building activities and it really helped us grow. I feel confident with Mackenzie and we help each other calm down if things arenโt going our way.โ
Harper said her transition as a freshman has been smooth throughout, especially with a doubles partner she has known for years.
โThis has been pretty cool, especially doing this with someone whoโs my friend,โ Harper said.
Head and Britt teamed up very recently, but had strong chemistry throughout.
โMadison is my doubles partner and even though she decided to play singles for Regionals, Hinson and I have connected really well,โ the senior said. โIt feels good to make it to Regionals โ itโs an accomplishment because Iโve never been here before.โ
Britt made it to Regionals as a freshman last year in doubles and said she canโt wait.
โItโs a pretty good feeling to be able to make it back as a sophomore,โ Britt said.
