Frink Middle School, has been honored as the Social Studies Middle School Teacher of the Year by the North Carolina Council for the Social Studies. When I was a Freshman in college, I met a classmate from Raleigh named Winnona Swayze. We hit it off and were friends with another Freshman from Hillsborough named Deborah Sarita Cathcart. We all had other pals we knew, but we three had a special connection. Today, 53 years later, we are still friends who stay in touch across the miles.

A Lenoir County man was arrested Monday after deputies found methamphetamine and other drugs during a vehicle stop. Lance Bowles, 44, was charged with felony drug possession and booked into the Lenoir County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
Kinston Police and the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspect attempting to break into a gun safe at Walmart on Feb. 2. Officers quickly arrested Anthony Wooten, 24, who now faces multiple charges.
Kinston Police arrested 30-year-old Shaquille Bryant after he allegedly exposed himself at the Dollar Tree on N. Herritage Street. Officers responded to the report on Jan. 30, 2025, and later apprehended Bryant, who is now being held without bond.
