Marion Cox Harrington, 69, of Kinston, NC passed away on August 24, 2024, after a few years of declining health. There will be a celebration of life at the Gordon Street Christian Church Fellowship Hall on North St. in Kinston, NC on Saturday Sept 7th at 2pm.
Itamar Tejada, a 12th grade student at Lenoir County Early College High School, got quite the surprise when members of the district’s senior leadership team showed up Wednesday morning with balloons and an award with her name on it.

The Greene County 4-H shooting sports team traveled to the Eastern 4-H Center in Columbia, NC, to compete in the Eastern Regional Shooting Sports Tournament on Saturday, August 24. Fourteen of the team members qualified for the 4-H State Tournament on Saturday, September 14, at the Millstone 4-H Center and will compete against other youth from around the state.

On the morning of September 1, 2024, Betty Lou Huggins lifted her 86-year-old eyes high towards Heaven and saw God’s arm reach down towards her. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Friday, September 6, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3006 Carey Road, Kinston NC 28504 with funeral service to follow. Interment to follow the funeral service at Oakridge Cemetery in Pink Hill, NC.

Lenoir County has received the second-largest grant in North Carolina through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, securing $448,465 to upgrade its EMS fleet with state-of-the-art powered cot systems. The advanced equipment, designed to improve safety and response times, is part of a nationwide effort to enhance emergency services, with only one other NC county receiving more funding.
On September 3, 2024, Officers on D-Squad were patrolling the area of Jack Rountree Apartments. During this time, officers observed a vehicle parked with the door open. Officers approached the vehicle and made contact with Charles Cox (31 of Deep Run, NC) sitting in the back seat.
On Friday, August 30, 2024, Tyrone Artis (23 of Kinston) was arrested for his involvement in this incident. Artis was placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond
David Newsome, 44, and Tracy Newsome, 49, both of Kinston, were arrested last Thursday after allegedly stealing metal from a Judy Lane residence.
Mary Alphin, the Lenoir County Clerk of Superior Court, has dedicated over 15 years to the Clerk's office, a career rooted in a strong sense of duty and passion for serving the public. Alphin assumed her current role after the retirement of former Clerk Dawn Stroud, who believed Alphin was the most qualified candidate to succeed her.

Kinston/Lenoir County Parks & Recreation, in conjunction with VisitKinston, is pleased to announce the 2024 USTA NC Tri-Level State Tennis Championships, arriving in Lenoir and Greene counties on September 19-22, 2024. These championships will bring over 500 adult tennis players to our counties and surrounding areas over the course of four days.
