2024 General Election voter dates and deadlines

Voter dates and deadlines for the 2024 general election in North Carolina:

  • Sept. 6, 2024: County boards of elections begin mailing absentee ballots to eligible voters who submitted an absentee ballot request form.

  • Oct. 11, 2024: Voter registration deadline (5 p.m.).

  • Oct. 17, 2024: In-person early voting begins; same-day registration available.

  • Oct. 29, 2024: Absentee ballot request deadline (5 p.m.).

  • Nov. 2, 2024: In-person early voting ends (3 p.m.).

  • Nov. 5, 2024: General Election Day.

  • Nov. 5, 2024: Absentee ballot return deadline (7:30 p.m.).

Voter Registration Deadline

  • The deadline to register to vote in North Carolina for the 2024 general election is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.*

  • The 2024 general election is on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024.

  • If you miss the voter registration deadline, you may still be able to register and vote or make changes (except for party affiliation) to your voter registration and vote during the early voting period.

*The deadline differs for military and overseas citizens.
