RALEIGH – Six North Carolina municipalities and two counties have been awarded a total of $401,000 in state and federal transportation grants to help develop bicycle and pedestrian plans.

On August 11, 2024, KPD’s B-Squad responded to a theft report at Tractor Supply, located at 706 E New Bern Road. The suspects are believed to be driving a lime green sedan. Officers are currently working to identify the individuals captured in the photos. There are also reports that they may have been involved in fraudulent activities at other retail locations within the City of Kinston.
Over the past several months, members of the Kinston Police Department have noticed a significant increase in the number of checks stolen after being mailed to various businesses located in Kinston.
Heber Michael (“Mickey”) Adkins, 72, of Kinston, passed away on August 1, 2024, at 3HC Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC after bravely living with cancer for many years. A Celebration of Life will be conducted Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2 PM in the Howard-Carter Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
On Saturday, August 3, Sandra and I completed a mission – almost a dream – that we conceived 12 years ago. We wanted to take each of our grandchildren on a special trip when they turned 13. For the mission's first leg, we took Courtney to SeaWorld in Florida. The following year, we took Haley to SeaWorld.

Deana Denise Daughety Layden, 57, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024. A service to honor and celebrate Deana’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024 at Hull Road Original Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Percy Cunningham officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center. A private entombment will be held at a later date at Westview Cemetery.
