PINK HILL - A recent legislative change has validated the mixed beverage referendum held in Pink Hill during the November 2022 election. Initially declared invalid due to the town not meeting the required 300 registered voters, the town had only 281, the will of the people is now upheld. Senate Bill 527, signed by Governor Roy Cooper on Monday, lowers the requirement to 200 registered voters and retroactively took effect on November 1, 2022.

Ronnie Darrell Lanier, 88, formerly of Kinston, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, in Oriental. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 12 noon at Edwards Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be conducted Friday, July 12, 2024, at 3PM at Westview Cemetery.
Two Kinston residents were arrested Sunday after being stopped in a stolen SUV with an expired and fictitious license plate.

Frances (Honey) Hatcher Fuller passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on July 5, 2024, at the age of seventy-nine years old. A Memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 2pm at First Presbyterian Church.
On Friday, July 5, 2024, A-Squad Officers received information related to a stolen vehicle being driven around Kinston. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen to Green County Sheriff's Office. Officers located the vehicle on the 1500 block of Dr. MLK Jr Blvd and made contact with the driver, (17 year old juvenile from Kinston) and took him into custody. With the assistance of Green County Sheriff's Office, the juvenile was transported to Green County and released to a parent.
On Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 12:00 pm, KPD's D-Squad observed a vehicle being operated on Vernon Avenue with fictious plates and illegal tint violations. Officers initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle and the driver, Okeith Parker (39 of Kinston) immediately fled. Officers pursed Parker until he came to a stop on the 800 block of Dixon Street. Parker began swallowing bags of suspected narcotics. Officers were able to gain entry into the vehicle, remove Parker, and effect the arrest.

There were over 12,000 HOSA attendees at this conference from across the globe and the Jones Senior students had the opportunity to collaborate, network, and learn with numerous HOSA members from various states and countries.

WILLIMANTIC, CT (07/02/2024)-- More than 800 Eastern Connecticut State University students graduated in the 2023-24 academic year, which culminated with two commencement ceremonies this May at the conclusion of the spring 2023 semester. The University's undergraduate ceremony occurred May 14 at the XL Center in Hartford, CT, and the graduate-level ceremony occurred May 11 on Eastern's campus.
