A service of love and remembrance will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Wheat Swamp Christian Church with Pastor Hank Jarman officiating. Committal will follow at Westview Cemetery.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Pastor Captain Joshua Smith of the Salvation Army in Kinston officiating.

Jersey Mike’s to open new location in Kinston

Jersey Mike’s Subs, a popular submarine sandwich chain, is set to open a new location in Kinston at 4153 West Vernon Avenue, according to their website. That address is in the Kinston Pointe plaza that also includes Walmart Supercenter, a Subway, a Dollar Tree and more. Jersey Mike’s is set to open inside what is now the Subway.

Agent Orange Foundation to honor veterans at GI Joes Museum

On June 8, the Agent Orange Foundation will visit GI Joes Military "Living History" Museum to award Agent Orange Medals to veterans. The event will also feature participation from Vets to Vets United, represented by board member Dan Vertaro, a veteran support dog program, and counselors from ECU Health to discuss support for aging veterans and caregivers.

Public Notice: Jones County Request for Proposal - Flood Study

Jones County has been awarded funding in the amount of $100,000 by the NC Department of Public Safety, to conduct a flood study of Jones County, specifically of flood prone areas along the Trent River. Engineers and associated personnel will gather data, analyze the causes of flooding, and devise strategies to mitigate future occurrences. Anticipated outcomes of the study include actionable measures aimed at reducing flooding along the Trent River in Jones County.

Jones County Sheriff raises concerns over budget cuts

TRENTON, NC — On Monday, the Jones County Board of Commissioners gathered to examine the proposed fiscal year 2024-2025 budget, marked by a contentious $100,000 reduction in the sheriff's department budget. The session witnessed an unusually large turnout, underscoring the community's amplified concern regarding the budgetary discussions. Following remarks by Sheriff Matt Wineman and a public hearing, the commissioners ratified the 2024-2025 budget, endorsing the cuts to the sheriff’s department.

Lenoir County man arrested for soliciting the unlawful purchase of ammunition and cocaine possession

On May 30th, 2024, at 1833 hours, KPD's Violent Crime Action Team conducted a traffic stop for a registration violation. The driver was identified as Alvin Dove (48 of Lenoir County). A probable cause search revealed suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and firearm ammunition. The items were seized and Dove was released at the scene pending further investigation.
