On May 30th, 2024, at 1833 hours, KPD's Violent Crime Action Team conducted a traffic stop for a registration violation. The driver was identified as Alvin Dove (48 of Lenoir County). A probable cause search revealed suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and firearm ammunition. The items were seized and Dove was released at the scene pending further investigation.
A crucial decision regarding the removal of traffic lights on Queen Street will be discussed at the Kinston City Council meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. Residents are strongly encouraged to attend and voice their opinions.
Bethany Divinity College and Seminary, Dothan, AL conferred the Doctor of Philosophy in Religion on Mitchel Paul Sugg last Thursday, May 30, 2024. Sugg graduated Summa Cum Laude in the 2024 class and was also given the Carl Warden Spirit of Bethany Award.
KPD's A-Squad responded to a residence on Old Snow Hill Road for a report of someone being chased by a motor vehicle. Officers arrived on scene and made contact with Jeronte Dudley (25 of LaGrange) and his girlfriend, Keola Thompson (23 of Kinston).
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. The City of Kinston is set to apply for a state grant aimed at improving the resilience of its electric distribution system. The grant, provided by the State Department of Environmental Quality Energy Office, will fund projects converting overhead electric lines to underground lines, reducing the risk of power outages during severe weather.

Meta Mae Williams Kennedy, 92, passed away on May 30, 2024, at UNC Lenoir Hospital in Kinston, North Carolina. A Celebration of Life will be conducted Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11AM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
Karen Jackson Skinner, 79, passed away at her home Friday, May 31, 2024. The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2pm Tuesday, June 4, at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, June 3, from 5- 7pm at Edwards Funeral Home.
