Minor to moderate coastal flooding is forecast for soundside locations from the northern Outer Banks southward to Frisco. Additionally, wind gusts of 45-50 mph are likely along the coast and near 40 mph for inland areas. A widespread 2-3" of rainfall is expected but a flash flood threat remains negligible.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. The Lenoir County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council announces the availability of $247,183 for 2024-25. Program applications are due by 5 pm on March 1, 2024. Only local public agencies, 501 (c)3 non-profit corporations and local housing authorities will be considered for funding. Heart disease is a leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. Our Eastern North Carolina area is known as the “buckle” of the belt of the highest rate of heart disease in the US. Given that designation gives us even more reason to learn how you can prevent heart disease.
C-Squad officers received information related to a vehicle stolen from Wilmington NC. Officers located the vehicle traveling on HWY 11 and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, Sklyer Potter (22, Lenoir County) and Andrea Milhoan (35, Lenoir County) were taken into custody. Milhoan, a convicted felon was also in possession of firearm. Both offenders were placed in the the LC Jail for the following:
Officers on C-Squad initiated a traffic stop with Dewyer Freeman (32, Snow Hill, NC). During the traffic stop officers observed narcotic violations. During a search, officers located over 50 grams of marijuana packed for distribution and a concealed firearm. Freeman was arrested without incident and placed in the LC Jail for the following:
Officers on C-Squad responded to a report of someone attempting to use a stolen bank card at McDonalds. Officers arrived and found Mohnee Bostic (26, Snow Hill, NC) at the scene in possession of the stolen bank card and a stolen vehicle. Bostic was arrested and charged with the following:
Officers on A-Squad were conducting a license checkpoint on S Queen Street. Officers encountered Bernard Smith (50, Kinston) and suspected impairment. Officers conducted their investigation and determined impairment. Smith was arrested for Driving While Impaired in placed in the LC Jail.
A-Squad officers received information related to a stolen motor vehicle from Greenville NC. Officers were advised that Kewon Hardy (24, Kinston) had warrants for the Larceny of a Motor Vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and Hardy
Sheriff Matt Sasser reports a second arrest made in William "Anthony" Williams Jr. homicide case. On 02/08/2024, Greene County Sheriff's Office Investigators arrested 18-year-old Shayquan Williams of Hookerton. Through interviews and other evidence Investigators were able to obtain a warrant on Williams for an open count of murder.
On Thursday at Queen Street Deli, North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein, now a gubernatorial candidate, addressed a crowd on his visions and commitments for the state's future. The event, highlighted by local dignitaries including Mayor Don Hardy and Councilmember Chris Suggs, underscored Stein's focus on education, public health, and community engagement.
Last year the Kinston Police Department outlined its strategic objectives, focusing on reducing violent crime through proactive measures and enhancing community relations. Those goals have paid off with a reduction in murders and violent crime.
Carolyn “Michelle” Wiggins Dunlow, 42, died February 7, 2024 at UNC Lenoir Healthcare in Kinston, North Carolina. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home.
