Lenoir County Board of Elections Director Steve Hines is resigning as the director and will be moving to Florida. Hines began his tenure as the director in January of 2020.

Gloria Jean Pierce Beaman Phillips peacefully and quietly departed this life on December 28, 2022. A service of love and remembrance will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation in the hour before the service.
Clinton “Clint” Heath Smith, 48, of Deep Run, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, January 15th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home in Kinston from 6-8pm. The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Deep Run Original Free Will Baptist Church at 11am with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at the home of Donna Smith in Deep Run.
In November, Royal Farms announced their expansion into North Carolina with plans to open its first location in early 2023. The cities named were New Bern, Greenville, Lumberton, Kinston, and Jacksonville.

Kimberly Michele Oliver, of Kinston, passed into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, January 14, 2023 after a life-long neurological disease that took her body, but allowed her to keep a warm and loving heart. A memorial service will be held on at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home in Kinston. Michael McDaniel of Alexandria, Virginia will perform the services. A private burial will be held at a later date at the Griffin Family Cemetery.
William “George” Mathis passed away on Jan 10, 2023 at his home in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was born May 20, 1943 to Jackson Crowell Mathis and Helen Hartis Mathis. He grew up in Kinston and graduated from Grainger High School and attended East Carolina University. A memorial service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Tuesday, Jan 17, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church of Raleigh. There will be a visitation in the Fellowship Hall following the service.

Our beloved, William “Bill” Percy Prentice, age 80, of Seven Springs, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly, but quietly, in his sleep on the morning of Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Visitation will be held at Rouse Funeral Home in La Grange, North Carolina, on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 4 to 6PM. The interment of ashes will be placed next to his beloved wife, DeDe at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York.
