Stuart Craig Smith, 53, of Deep Run, NC, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, Goldsboro, NC. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Jessie Howard Cemetery, Deep Run, NC with Pastor Joe Ard officiating.

On Saturday, the Kinston Police Department hosted community training sessions funded by the U.S. Department of Justice grant. The citizens of Pink Hill will be voting on a Mixed Beverage Referendum to decide whether or not to permit the sale of mixed beverages in hotels, restaurants, private clubs, community theatres, and convention centers and the ‘on-premises’ and ‘off-premises’ sale of malt beverages and unfortified wine in qualified establishments. This referendum can only be voted on by registered voters of Pink Hill on Election Day, November 8, 2022.
Voters that use early voting, or by-mail ballot, will have the opportunity to go to their precinct on Election Day, November 8th, to receive the ballot that contains the Mixed Beverage vote.
Having lived a long and fruitful life, George Allen Byrd, Jr. passed away on October 28, 2022, at the age of 103. A service of love and remembrance will be held by the graveside at Pinelawn Memorial Park on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 3 p.m., with Pastor Doug Stokes officiating and the rendering of military honors.
Jack Copeland Schwartz, 51, died October 13, 2022, after suffering a heart attack at his home in New Bern, NC. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, Nov. 12th at Centenary United Methodist Church at 309 New Bern St., New Bern, NC. Visitation will follow the service.
