In advance of Hurricane Ian’s remnants moving through the state, Governor Roy Cooper declared a State of Emergency today to activate the state’s emergency operations plan, waive transportation rules to help the transport of fuel and critical supplies, help first responders and the agriculture industry and protect consumers from price gouging.
Ian is now a strong Category 4 hurricane located about 75 miles WSW of Naples, FL. No major changes were made to the forecast track overnight - Ian is still expected to make landfall today along the west coast of Florida, around the Port Charlotte area, and slowly track NE across central FL tonight and Thursday.

Last night, NLFR responded to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a hoverboard on fire. The hoverboard was quicky removed from the home and extinguished. Thankfully, there were no injuries or serious damage reported.

Ian has strengthened into a Major Hurricane this morning, and has made landfall over western Cuba. Hurricane Ian is expected to continue north into the Gulf of Mexico today, and then make landfall on the Florida peninsula early Thursday morning.
