Adoptathon Event Hosted by PetSense and Lenoir County SPCA

On September 24, 2022, The Lenoir County SPCA collaborated with PetSense in Kinston to host an Adoptathon Event. The event is used to bring community together for a common goal to support the dogs and cats looking for furr-ever homes. PetSense is a local chain pet supply store that is at 4130 W Vernon Ave in Kinston, which is sponsored by Tractor Supply.

“Tractor Supply also is a huge supporter of the Lenoir County SPCA,” said Bailey Blake, who helps coordinates Adoptathon events with the SPCA.

They have two events a year and their event on the 24th was the biggest yet since Tiffanie Jarman joined the team at the SPCA.

“PetSense company wide involves themselves with different organizations and we are lucky enough to work with our local SPCA,” said Blake. “We provide them with food and supplies, and they are gracious enough to come to all of our events.”

Kim Mitchell, who works at the Lenoir County SPCA, applauds the local PetSense for their dedication to the animals.

“PetSense is our go-to place for the animals at the shelter who need grooming,” said Mitchell. “Our community relationship allows for all pets at the shelter to receive free baths and grooming needs.”

These are constant needs as new animals are added to the shelter.

Mitchell says that “since the current location of the SPCA is off the beaten path, the partnership with PetSense is crucial and allows for the community to see more of the needs of the shelter pets and it is a huge help when people cannot come to us to see and groom the animals.”

Both Blake and Mitchell hope to see the Adoptathon events get bigger in the future.

Blake said, “Especially with the new location of the SPCA coming, we hope to see more community involvement at our events. PetSense has always been community driven and we want to support the SPCA as much as we can. I cannot say enough about my experience with the Lenoir County SPCA.”

The Lenoir County SPCA allows collaborates with PetSense when it comes to cat adoptions. Kim Mitchell understands that “when we send cats that need to be housed at the PetSense, we don’t worry about them because we know they are being well taken care of.”

The community around PetSense and the Lenoir County SPCA made the event possible, especially the vendors. The event on September 24, 2022 was from 10am-2pm in the PetSense parking lot with vendors ranged from home decor to tumblers to jewelry. Every vendor booth was donating 10% of their proceeds to the shelter to support future adoptions.

The Lenoir County SPCA is currently at 2455 Rouse Road Extension and they are open to the public Monday, Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 to 4:00 pm and on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. They encourage everyone to come to their future events or stop by the shelter to see what dogs or cats you can help find their furr-ever home.
