Lenoir County SPCA cuts ribbon on new facility

Lenoir County's new SPCA facility celebrated its ribbon-cutting and grand opening at 3200 Hwy 258 North in Kinston. "Today is about making lives happier and making families fuller. And I could not be happier to be here in Lenoir County and to share this blessing with all of you," said Robert Kerns, USDA Rural Development Public Information Officer, emphasizing the facility's impact on the community.

Thanks to a $1.7 million investment from USDA Rural Development and generous donations from the community, the facility boasts administrative offices, animal relinquishing and adoption areas, a laundry room, and an outdoor play space.

"Today makes a significant milestone in our journey. We are thrilled to see the vision come to life," remarked Tonya Adams, President of Lenoir County SPCA. Adams expressed gratitude for the donors, from those giving hundreds of thousands to a single-dollar contribution, highlighting the collective effort that made the dream a reality.

Board member Randy Kelley reflected on the journey, praising the community's dedication to building the facility. "I think Jerry Henderson had a crazy idea that this small board in a small community could build this type of facility to house and take care of our animals, cats and dogs. And it was heartfelt by everyone involved," said Kelley.
