Over 100 years of history buried in one area and no one barely even remembers it or knows it is there. As a community it is our job, nay, our responsibility to look after our own heritage because if we won’t do it, then how can we charge the task to someone else and expect satisfactory results.
In advance of Hurricane Ian’s remnants moving through the state, Governor Roy Cooper declared a State of Emergency today to activate the state’s emergency operations plan, waive transportation rules to help the transport of fuel and critical supplies, help first responders and the agriculture industry and protect consumers from price gouging.
Ian is now a strong Category 4 hurricane located about 75 miles WSW of Naples, FL. No major changes were made to the forecast track overnight - Ian is still expected to make landfall today along the west coast of Florida, around the Port Charlotte area, and slowly track NE across central FL tonight and Thursday.
North Carolina is preparing for heavy rainfall and possible flooding on Friday and Saturday from the remnants of Hurricane Ian. Governor Cooper reminds residents that now is the time to complete their personal preparations.
Last night, NLFR responded to a reported structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a hoverboard on fire. The hoverboard was quicky removed from the home and extinguished. Thankfully, there were no injuries or serious damage reported.

On Tuesday, September 27th, 2022, at approximately 11:50 am officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to the 600 block of Larkspur Road in reference to a call of an individual shot in the area.

Ian has strengthened into a Major Hurricane this morning, and has made landfall over western Cuba. Hurricane Ian is expected to continue north into the Gulf of Mexico today, and then make landfall on the Florida peninsula early Thursday morning.

The event is used to bring community together for a common goal to support the dogs and cats looking for furr-ever homes. PetSense is a local chain pet supply store that is at 4130 W Vernon Ave in Kinston, which is sponsored by Tractor Supply.
Charlotte Baker was a lifetime Duplin County resident and Pink Hill business owner who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease) in 2018 and succumbed to the disease in 2021 after a valiant battle.

On Friday, September 30, the Lenoir County Historical Association will hold a grand birthday celebration to serve a dual purpose. This year, 2022, marks the 250th anniversary of the construction of Harmony Hall – and it also marks the 51st anniversary of the founding of the Lenoir County Historical Association. The construction of Harmony Hall began in 1772, and the association held its organizational meeting in 1971.
