Today, Governor Roy Cooper tested positive for COVID-19. The Governor is experiencing mild symptoms. He has begun taking Paxlovid, an oral antiviral pill to treat COVID-19. Governor Cooper is vaccinated against the virus and has received two booster shots.
On Saturday, May 14, auditions for the Road to New York Talent Competition opened at the Kinston High School Performing Arts Center. I asked Capt. Newborn how the auditions went.

Fresh basil is one of the best parts of summer. It’s a great plant to grow at home because it is low maintenance and from July to September there is always abundance. Basil is refreshing and remarkably versatile. It can liven up a pasta sauce or salad, even a cocktail or dessert. There’s pretty much nothing that that you can’t pair with basil.

Dorien Sutton, 2022 Greene Early College and Lenoir Community College graduate, has received the Golden Leaf Foundation Scholarship, as announced by the Foundation’s CEO, Scott T. Hamilton.
Spirit AeroSystems recently donated $10,600 to Lenoir/Greene United Way. The donation will support the work of multiple area nonprofit organizations who receive funding support through Lenoir/Greene United Way.

Eliza Hawkins was presented The Sue Marcom Jones Scholastic Achievement Award by Morgan Carter at Moss Hill School on May 31, 2022. This award is given annually to the fifth grade student with the highest grade average while in fifth grade. Eliza is the daughter of Barry and Rebecca Hawkins of Kinston.
