LCES confirms fatality in fireworks explosion, gives update on injured firefighters

The three injured firefighters were transported from the scene to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, NC to be treated for their injuries. Two of the three firefighters have been released from the hospital, and one firefighter was transported to the NC Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill for further treatment. Unfortunately, Randy Herring succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Snow Hill woman charged after traffic stop

Deputy Devin James was patrolling the Arba-Jason area when he noticed a suspicious vehicle; after conducting a traffic stop on the vehicle and performing a consent search along with other Deputies, Deputy James arrested 38 year old Beatrice Church of Snow Hill, who was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and later charged with Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Schedule II controlled substance.

Update: Summerfest 2022 June 11, 2022 event canceled

UPDATE: CANCELED! Kinston’s annual Summerfest kicks off on June 11, 2022 with a concert presented by Downtown Kinston Revitalization (DKR) at Pearson Park. Breadwine and Blooze, the band who performed during last year’s July 4th weekend fireworks display, will be returning to Kinston for an evening filled with food, vendors, and music.

Obituary: Mary Joyce Jones Sutton

Mary Joyce Jones Sutton, 87, passed away peacefully at Kitty Askins Hospice Center on Sunday, June 5, 2022. A Graveside Service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at 10 am at Fairview Cemetery with Rev Ronnie Hobgood officiating.
