A few days ago, my wife went to the post office to pick up some Christmas stamps. Much to her surprise and dismay, the postal man said there were no Christmas stamps available this year, to which my wife retorted, “You mean you don’t have any Christmas stamps showing Mary and the baby Jesus! Nothing about the traditional manger scene or the wise men coming from afar to worship the newborn Savior of the world?”

“You have taken on a massive responsibility, and I believe you haven’t fully grasped the weight of that responsibility.
“I have done what I said I would do in my last letter to you. I took my daughter to school without a mask Wednesday. She was turned away citing the board ruled, but we were unable to get an answer as to what support the board used for the rule, or why. She is at home today without being able to attend school because of a rule you put in place, and because you wish to mask her in spite of clear and abundant information indicating and/or proving that masks 1, are not effective, and 2 create physical and psychological harm.

Since March 2020, the Governor has been issuing edicts and mandates by way of unchecked, unilateral authority, the likes of which our state has never experienced. We in the legislative branch have heard from thousands of constituents who deem this behavior “unhealthy, unsafe, and undemocratic.”
An open letter to the LCPS School Board, Part 1: Nov 1 meeting's masks in school's vote
“This is notice that I am not asking your permission to send my child to school without a mask. Those efforts by others, as kind and congenial as they were, were met with total disregard, and are now over. My request wouldn’t be quite as kind. We, those of us who choose, will not be sending our children with masks. And school staff may not require them when they arrive. This is our decision, not yours.” …
“I will point out the hypocrisy in your masking rule. Highlight the falsehoods and politically driven one-sided arguments preceding your vote, and advise you that continuing along this path constitutes a violation of our children’s rights as citizens not to be used as medical research subjects.” …
“You should reconvene for a special session and by the end of this week record a vote to make masks in school optional.”

I can speak to this with authority, because I have witnessed it all my life. As we approach Tuesday, November 2nd, my thoughts continue to grow about the results of the City Council and especially the Mayoral elections. The office of mayor is considered the chief political office in city government. The importance of this role cannot be taken lightly. This letter is not a personal indictment against Mayor Hardy, the man, but an expressed uneasiness about his leadership skills and concern about his judgement which impacts us all as citizens of Kinston.

“Elections have consequences” is a phrase most often used when someone who did not vote complains about the actions of a politician. Recently, I discovered that at least one politician has forgotten that winning an election also has consequences. On August 14th, I drove by Grainger Stadium and observed cars lined up as watermelons were being given away by our current Mayor, Don Hardy. As I had received a flyer about the event this is what I expected to see. What I did not expect to see was on-duty City of Kinston firefighters being used as labor.

Letter to the editor: I have recently endorsed a Democrat
Recently I wrote a Guest Column wherein I expressed my agreement with former Democratic Louisiana Senator Elbert Guillory. In 2013 he left the Liberal Democratic Party in favor of the Conservative Republican Party, citing among other reasons the three liberal lies that 1. All Republicans are racists; 2. Democrats are champions of Civil Liberties; and 3. The Democrats’ agenda is best for Black Americans. My column agreed with Guillory’s reasoning.
