Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) decreased in 85 of North Carolina’s counties in March, increased in three, and remained unchanged in 12. Hyde County had the highest unemployment rate at 8.7 percent while Orange County had the lowest at 2.4 percent.

Emergency responders are on scene of a major vehicle accident at 600 W New Bern Rd (Hwy70). One vehicle is overturned with a patient entrapped and power lines are down. Hwy 70 is closed in both directions from Hwy 11/55 to US 258 S. Responding units include Southwood and City Of Kinston Fire Departments, Lenoir County EMS, and NCSHP. Vidant EastCare has also been called to land on scene.
Hwy 70 will be closed for an undetermined amount of time.
