Cooper vetoed House Bill 605: 2022 Primary Date

"This bill is an additional attempt by Republican legislators to control the election timeline and undermine the voting process. The constitutionality of congressional and legislative districts is now in the hands of the North Carolina Supreme Court and the Court should have the opportunity to decide how much time is needed to ensure that our elections are constitutional."

Update: Shooting/Murder Investigation

An arrest has been made in the shooting that occurred last night on the 500 block of Mitchell St. Malik Dyshaun Bryant, 24, of Kinston NC was arrested and charged an open count of murder and two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder. Mr. Bryant was confined to the Lenoir County Detention Center under no bond.

Governor Cooper encourages eligible businesses to apply for business Recovery Grant Program

Governor Roy Cooper and Department of Revenue Secretary Ronald Penny joined business leaders to provide an update on the Business Recovery Grant Program and encouraged local businesses to apply. These grants are part of North Carolina’s efforts to support businesses as they recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The deadline to apply for the program is January 31, 2022.

We made adjustments down in expected snowfall amounts across Eastern NC. We are now expecting up to 1 to 2 inches generally north of US Hwy 64, with some isolated amounts up to 3 inches possible for areas adjacent to the Albemarle Sound.

An act to revise the education requirements for licensure of a professional land surveyor, to make various technical changes, to clarify the design-build and design-build bridging statutes, to prohibit waiver of future claims for progress payments on construction contracts, to require attorneys' fees in certain lien claims, and to define the term "supplier" as used in a provision of the alcohol control laws.

Kids On Stage Wins Big in Atlanta

The Greene County Kids On Stage group recently took a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the Junior Theater Festival. Kids On Stage took a group of 22 kids and performed The Lion King Jr. This year at Junior Theater Festival Atlanta, there were about 5000 people representing 110 groups from all over the nation and world.
