Letter to the Editor: Elijah Woods for Felicia Solomon for Mayor

As we approach Tuesday, November 2nd, my thoughts continue to grow about the results of the City Council and especially the Mayoral elections. The office of mayor is considered the chief political office in city government. The importance of this role cannot be taken lightly. This letter is not a personal indictment against Mayor Hardy, the man, but an expressed uneasiness about his leadership skills and concern about his judgement which impacts us all as citizens of Kinston.

Letter to the Editor: SBI should investigate Mayor Hardy using on-duty firefighters for watermelon giveaway

“Elections have consequences” is a phrase most often used when someone who did not vote complains about the actions of a politician. Recently, I discovered that at least one politician has forgotten that winning an election also has consequences. On August 14th, I drove by Grainger Stadium and observed cars lined up as watermelons were being given away by our current Mayor, Don Hardy. As I had received a flyer about the event this is what I expected to see. What I did not expect to see was on-duty City of Kinston firefighters being used as labor.

Tammy Kelly: Don’t Toss Your Fall Decorations – Cook Them!!!

I love Fall decorating, the colors, the use of fresh materials, all of it, but it’s really sad that one of the most nutritious fall vegetables is often only used for decoration and often overlooked for a healthy addition to your menu!! Besides being great for decorating, and the only vegetable that is carved and lit up, this low-calorie squash is rich in potassium and loaded with beta-carotene (a powerful antioxidant), and its natural sweetness brings flavor to baked goods without any added guilt.
