Scare U University is owned and operated by the volunteer’s of Pink Hill Fire and Rescue. Established in 2016 Scare U is a all indoor haunted attraction opening October 23 at 8:00 until the last person goes through. We will reopen the 25th-30th same hours.

On 10/08/2021 Officers responded to the Gifted Hands Barbershop located at 1500 W. Vernon Ave in regards to an assault. Upon arrival it was determined that three individuals came into the barbershop and assaulted a customer.
On October 14, 2021, a One-stop early voting period begins for November municipal elections. In Lenoir County, One-Stop voting sites include Fairfield Recreation Center, La Grange Frink Alumni Association Culture Center, and Teachers Memorial Gym. In Greene County, the location is the Snow Hill Fire Department. In Jones County, early voters will vote at Jones County Board of Elections.
Nearly all 10,000 employees at state-operated healthcare facilities are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and compliant with a mandatory vaccination requirement, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The department’s Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF), a state-operated health care system comprised of 14 facilities, moved to mandatory COVID-19 vaccination in July.

Walking 155 miles, sixty-nine Greene Early College students partnered with Lenoir Community College’s “Walk for Mental Health Awareness” on October 7. Using Greene Central’ track, students proudly participated in this worthy acknowledgement of the heath issues caused by mental illnesses.
Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. On Fridays, these students are presented with an award from the counselor, Mrs. McLawhorn, or an administrator and are congratulated for their hard work.
Some veterans of the Vietnam War came back home with more than the traumas of war. On Monday, October 11, 2021, local area veterans were given the Orange Heart Medal by members of The Orange Heart Metal Foundation. The Orange Heart Medal Project’s purpose is to bring recognition to veterans who served in the Vietnam war and who were affected by exposure to Agent Orange
Virginia Jane Stroud Sutton, 88, of Kinston passed away on October 10, 2021, at home surrounded by her loved ones. A graveside service will be held 3 pm on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Westview Cemetery in Kinston, NC.
Lewis Whitfield “LW” Herring Jr. of LaGrange passed from his earthly home on October 8, 2021 at the Wake Med ICU after a valiant fight. A service of remembrance will be held at the LaGrange Christian Church Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 2:00pm.

For the second time this year, the CSS Neuse Foundation is hosting “Breakfast on the Boat.” The event will begin around 7 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the CSS Neuse II, the replica gunboat. As usual, “Breakfast on the Boat” features scrambled eggs, bacon, link sausage, grits, biscuits, and a beverage. All foods except biscuits are prepared on the grounds next to the CSS Neuse II. Tables will afford social distancing.

On Wednesday, October 6th, 2021, members of the Kinston Police Department Narcotics Unit concluded two narcotics investigations that spanned the course of nearly 3 months. This operation was conducted as a part of the department’s initiative to suppress violent crime in the city.
