Wood Ducks To Host Second Annual Kinston Cornhole Classic Presented by Poole Realty

The Down East Wood Ducks announced Tuesday, their plans to host the second annual Kinston Cornhole Classic at Grainger Stadium, presented by Poole Realty on Saturday, November 6th. The event will use the American Cornhole League Rounders Format which is a Progressive Round Robin tournament where all teams will be placed into a pool and six or more rounds will be played by each team.

Guardian ad Litem program seeking volunteers

As an integral part of the North Carolina Judicial System, the Guardian ad Litem program was established in 1983 by the General Assembly to be a voice for the children in the community. Volunteers for the Guardian ad Litem program speak up for abused and neglected children in court. The term “guardian ad litem” comes from Latin, and means “guardian for the case.”

Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County program scheduled for Saturday

The Distinguished Young Women of Lenoir County program proudly presents Anna Rouse, Distinguished Young Woman of Lenoir County for 2021, in its annual program which will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021 in the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Kinston High School. Rouse is currently a freshman at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the daughter of Eric and Alice Rouse.

Kinston Police: Arrest made in connection with shooting

On Saturday, September 18th, 2021, at approximately 3:50 pm, Kinston Police Officers responded to shots fired near the 1100 block of Pollock St. Kinston, N.C. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim, Rashad O’Neil, 25, of Kinston. The preliminary investigation revealed that two individuals operating a white SUV drove past Mr. O’Neil and began firing shots at him from the vehicle. After the shooting the assailants fled the area.

UNC Lenoir recognizes latest Hall of Honor inductees on Saturday, September 18th at Kinston Country Club.

Established in 2000, the Hall of Honor is designed to recognize individuals whose contribution to hospital care in Lenoir County makes them remarkable in some way. Including this year’s class, 118 outstanding citizens have been inducted into the UNC Lenoir Hall of Honor, and 2021 marks the 115th year of hospital care for our community. Six deserving individuals were inducted in the morning ceremony.

Help wanted: Lenoir County Health Department Public Health Nurse III

The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate Family Planning, STD/HIV and Adult Health programs and to supervise the staff that are involved in these clinics. This position will schedule clinics and provide educational and assessment needs for any adult services clinic. This position will also ensure program guidelines are met and initiate changes and/or new programs in a timely manner.

Three very special young ladies are traveling in Italy this week and I want to highlight some of their experiences. These ladies are my Daughter Jessica, my Grand Daughter Rachel, and a special friend, Carla Gray. They are all extremely busy in their everyday business and personal lives. Jessica holds a very important position with Natural Stone Services headquartered in Alpharetta, Ga., and she also is a leader in her church and community.
