Ross Pipkin, 77, of Marion, NC and formerly of Kinston died August 18th at the VA Hospital in Asheville, NC. Ross leaves behind a loving family and close friends. Surviving is his son, Ross Sikora of Asheville, NC and siblings, Penny Craven (the late Michael Craven) of Kinston, Joe (Cora Mae) of Trenton, Wendy Efird (Ronnie) of Norwood, NC, his very close friends, Debra Rector and daughter Danielle of Marion, NC, Nancy Mills of Mint Hill, NC and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many.

Governor Cooper provides update on State’s pandemic trends, encourages vaccination

Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D. provided an update on the state’s COVID-19 key metrics and trends. A representative from Live Nation Entertainment, Jeannine Beson, joined to share information on the company’s updated vaccination policies for concerts in North Carolina and their mission for keeping concert-goers safe. Additionally, the winners of the of the state’s final Your Shot at A Million Summer Cash Drawing and Summer Cash 4 College drawing winners were announced.

Reece Gardner: George Whitfield - Rags to riches

One of my guests this week on my television show is George Whitfield, and it is a pleasure to be in his presence. The main reason I wanted to write today about George is that he epitomizes the "rags to riches" theme of being the best that we can be. He is a "local boy,' so to speak, who excelled, but it was not without a lot of effort. A. J. Carr wrote, "Coach Whitfield produced a glittering record for more than 40 years, helped thousands of kids, and still promotes the sport of baseball with unbridled fervor."
