Lenoir/Greene United Way hosted their Midsummer Night’s Dream event on Wednesday, July 14 at Kinston Country Club. The event celebrated the nonprofit organizations local donors and their service to United Way.

Snow Hill Primary Terrific Kid Awards

Snow Hill Primary is keeping the weekly Terrific Kid Awards going during the summer! Each teacher chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. At the end of the week, these students are presented with an award from the counselor, Mrs. McLawhorn, or an administrator and are congratulated for their hard work. Air frying is the cool new way to enjoy your favorite fried foods without using any of the unhealthy oils or additional steaming up the kitchen. If you have not jumped on the “air fryer” bandwagon yet, an air fryer cooks with very hot circulating air. They don’t “really” fry, but rely instead on a fan to circulate hot air to cook food, like a countertop convection oven.

KPD obtains warrant for arrest in murder

On Friday, July 16, 2021, Detectives with the Kinston Police Department were able to obtain warrants for Torrence Howard 33, of Fayetteville NC, for the murder of Gabrielle Wendt on April 17, 2021. Howard is currently in the custody of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office on unrelated Federal Charges.

Kinston Police Department responded to shots fired on E. Shine Street

On Thursday, July 15, 2021, around 6 p.m., members of the Kinston Police Department located the suspect vehicle on the 900 block of E. Highland Ave. During the course of the investigation detectives were able to identify, Jaquan Sutton, 22, of Kinston as the driver of the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. Sutton was arrested without incident and charged with Attempted Murder.

Relay for Life event at South Lenoir High School on Friday

There will be a Relay for Life event at South Lenoir High School, located at 3355 Old Hwy 11 in Deep Run, NC, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday, July 16, 2021. This event will honor cancer survivors and raise money for the American Cancer Society. "It is a privilege to chair the Relay For Life again and bring it to South Lenoir," said Jo Ellen Sloan, chairman. "We encourage everyone to come out and have a good time."
