PINK HILL - The Honorable Carol S. Sykes passed away on Friday, August 26, 2021 at N.C. Heart and Vascular Hospital in Raleigh. A celebratory Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31 at the home of Leigh Turner (aka Turner Beach) at 105 Bill Sutton Road in Pink Hill. To encourage social distancing please bring your lawn/beach chair and happiness in your heart for a life well-lived.
Ross Pipkin, 77, of Marion, NC and formerly of Kinston died August 18th at the VA Hospital in Asheville, NC. Ross leaves behind a loving family and close friends. Surviving is his son, Ross Sikora of Asheville, NC and siblings, Penny Craven (the late Michael Craven) of Kinston, Joe (Cora Mae) of Trenton, Wendy Efird (Ronnie) of Norwood, NC, his very close friends, Debra Rector and daughter Danielle of Marion, NC, Nancy Mills of Mint Hill, NC and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many.
Dennis “Dink” Smith passed away at his home on Friday, August 13, 2021. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday evening, August 18, at 7 PM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mike Pridgen officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mary Dell Sutton Rhodes, 87, began rest in her eternal home on Sunday, August 8, 2021. A service to remember and honor Mary Dell’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Bingham officiating. Committal will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mount Olive. The family will receive friends at Rouse Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.
Jean Aldridge Abbott, 83, fell asleep in this world and awakened in her heavenly home on Saturday, August 7, 2021. A service to remember and honor Jean’s life will be held Thursday, August 12th at 7:00 p.m. at Community Baptist Church, La Grange. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Family Life Center. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery on Friday, August 13th at 10:00 a.m.
Frances Evelyn Decker Cauley, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

Sue Carol Baker Davis, 88, of Kinston, passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021 at UNC Lenoir Health Care. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Howard-Carter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 with burial following at Westview Cemetery.
Benjamin Gerald “Jerry” Smith, 72, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021. A gathering to honor and remember Jerry’s life will be held privately by the family at a later date
James Arthur “Jack” Elmore, 81, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Jack was born in Bucklesberry to the late Hardy Kinsey Elmore and Clara Belle Efird Elmore on July 22, 1939. A service to remember Jack’s life will be held at Rouse Funeral Home on Sunday, July 11 at 3:00 p.m. Committal will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.
Laurel Fork, Virginia: Alan Patrick Herring, 47, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 16, 2021 after a UTV accident at his new cabin home in the mountains of Virginia. A service to celebrate and remember Alan’s life will be held 2 PM Saturday, June 5th, at Free Union Original Free Will Baptist Church, 2573 Firetower Road, Walstonburg, North Carolina. Jerry David Henderson, 80, died Friday, April 16, 2021, at his home in Kinston, NC. A drive-thru visitation will be from 5-7 pm Monday, April 19, 2021, at Westminster United Methodist Church. Visitors are asked to enter the church parking lot on West Road and exit onto Carey Road. A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, April 20, also at WUMC.
