Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) increased in 85 counties in November 2024, decreased in 12, and remained unchanged in three. Mitchell County had the highest unemployment rate at 8.9 percent while Orange and Currituck Counties each had the lowest at 2.9 percent.
In the Old Senate Chambers at the historic Capitol in downtown Raleigh, Josh Stein took the oath of office to become North Carolina’s 76th Governor. Joined by his wife Anna and family, Stein swore to support the Constitution and laws of the United States and North Carolina and to faithfully perform the duties of the office of governor.

Judge W. Curtis Stackhouse has been appointed to serve as chief district court judge for Greene, Lenoir, and Wayne counties (Judicial District 9). He was first elected to the court in 2016.
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2025 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award for Greene County Volunteers. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding contributions of volunteers in various categories, including Individual, Group, National Service, and Director of Volunteers (Paid).
During the Inaugural North Carolina Farmers Appreciation Day, the Farmer of the Year and Young Farmer of the Year were recognized, and all the state’s farmers were honored at a celebration dinner at the N.C. State Fairgrounds. Special guest and keynote speaker was former United States Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue.

Preliminary results from the North Carolina 2024 General Election show a strong voter turnout, with 67.01% of registered voters casting ballots. As of 11:42 p.m. on election night, 92.36% of precincts (2,455 out of 2,658) have reported results, reflecting over 5.2 million votes.
