Mrs. Laverne Harper Strickland, age 92, passed away Monday morning, March 10, 2025, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Funeral Services will be held graveside 2 PM Thursday, March 13th, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Pastor Roy Graves officiating. The family will greet friends and extended relatives immediately following the service.

A provider sees patients from 10 AM to 4 PM at various locations. Available services include family health, maternal health, and more. On March 9, 2025, at approximately 4:36 p.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department’s D-Squad responded to a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly on North Herritage Street. Before officers arrived, they were informed that one of the drivers had left the scene.
On March 8, 2025, at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad conducted a traffic stop on Highway 258 South after a vehicle nearly struck an officer’s patrol car.
On March 7, 2025, at approximately 12:57 a.m., officers from the Kinston Police Department’s B-Squad conducted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle. The vehicle had been reported stolen to KPD on July 17, 2024.
