You don’t have to be Irish to get in on all of the fun celebrating St. Patrick’s day. The holiday is celebrated on March 17th and began in Ireland as the feast of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, the date is the anniversary of St Patrick’s death in 461. Irish immigrants brought the holiday to the United States and Americans were introduced to the traditions of celebrating.
LCC Aviation Center Moves to Next Construction Phase
The Lenoir Community College Senator Jim Perry Aviation Center for Excellence (ACE) is progressing steadily at the Global TransPark. Site work, utility relocation, and ground stabilization are complete, with foundation slabs now poured.
Global TransPark Fuel Farm nears completion
By the end of 2024, major progress had been made on the new fuel farm at the North Carolina Global TransPark. Contractors completed tank coatings, pipe fabrication, and line connections. With tank crews demobilized, final grading, concrete, and asphalt work are underway. The project is expected to wrap up in early 2025.
Snow Hill man sentenced to over four years for role in $1 million COVID fraud scheme
A Snow Hill man was sentenced to 50 months in prison for Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud related to Covid-19 loans. In March of 2024, TYREEK RASHEED EXUM, 26, was charged in a multi-count indictment alleging various offenses related to a Covid fraud scheme.
Kinston woman arrested on new drug trafficking charges while out on pretrial release for death by distribution
A woman out of jail on pretrial release for death by distribution was arrested Thursday by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office for felony warrants for trafficking opium or heroin, along with new charges for possessing Fentanyl and other narcotics.
Spirit of Lenoir Christian Music Festival returns to Pearson Park in April
There’s nothing quite like gathering with friends, family, and neighbors for a night of faith-filled music under the stars. The 2nd Annual Spirit of Lenoir Christian Music Festival will be held on Saturday, April 12 at Pearson Park in Kinston, NC with music starting at 4:30 PM.
Lenoir County water utilities to temporarily change disinfectant starting March 17
Beginning March 17, 2025 and continuing until April 21, 2025 the above water utilities in Lenoir County will temporarily change the disinfectant used in the water treatment process. They will be using chlorine rather than chloramines during this five-week period.
LCPS honors top Teacher Assistant and non-instructional Staff Member of the Year

Selected from a talented pool of nominees across the district, Salisa Cobb and Andre Clark were surprised with the exciting news on Monday, February 24, when a celebration squad visited their schools to share in their moment of recognition.
Lenoir County Deputies Safely Remove Suicidal Man After Hours-Long Standoff
A suicidal man who barricaded himself inside a home near Woodington Middle School was safely removed by Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies Thursday night. After more than two hours of negotiations, Special Response Team members entered the residence and found the man barricaded in a bathroom. He was safely removed without injury and transported to a hospital for evaluation. Sheriff Jackie Rogers praised his team for their professionalism in handling the situation.
Kinston Police seek help identifying suspects in counterfeit money case
The Kinston Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying the individuals in these photos. They are suspected of using counterfeit money to pay for their meal at Waffle House on March 2, 2025.

Snow Hill Primary gives out a weekly award called "Terrific Kid" awards. Each teacher at SHP chooses a student who has been responsible, shows great character, or has reached a personal goal. Traffic stop leads to DWI arrest
On March 4, 2025, at 2:16 PM, officers from Kinston Police Department's D-Squad conducted a traffic stop on NC 11. The driver, 71-year-old Tyrone Moore of Ayden, NC, was suspected of driving while impaired. After an investigation, officers arrested Moore and charged him with:

Lenoir County students dominate Regional Science Fair
Lenoir County Public Schools (LCPS) students showcased their scientific prowess at the Regional Science and Engineering Fair held on Feb. 15 at East Carolina University, winning over 50% of the awards. The school board recognized the students at its March 3rd board meeting.
Traffic stop leads to gun and drug charges
On March 4, 2025, at approximately 12:30 AM, officers from KPD’s B-Squad conducted a traffic stop on Riverview Lane. Upon approaching the driver, officers observed narcotic violations. A subsequent search led to the recovery of an illegally concealed firearm.
