In a briefing this morning, Governor Stein, Director of Emergency Management Will Ray, and Secretary of Transportation Secretary Joey Hopkins provided an update on the winter weather that will impact much of the state starting Wednesday and into Thursday.

Rotaract of Lenoir County seeks support after drive-in movie screen collapse
A beloved holiday tradition in Lenoir County is at risk after strong winds destroyed the permanent drive-in movie screen at the Lenoir County Fairgrounds over the weekend. The Rotaract Club of Lenoir County, which has hosted the Annual Drive-In Movie Night for the past five years, is now asking for the community’s help to rebuild in time for this December’s event.
Kinston reports wastewater spill due to power outage on Forrest Street
The City of Kinston reported a discharge of 13,250 gallons of untreated wastewater on February 16, 2025, due to a power outage at the Forrest Street lift station. Approximately 5,000 gallons entered the Adkin Branch floodway. City crews managed the situation with bypass pumps and are working on repairs and recovery efforts. The Division of Water Resources has been notified and is reviewing the incident.

Patrol car crash shuts down Highway 241 for hours
Emergency crews responded to a crash early Sunday morning involving a patrol car that struck a light pole on Highway 241 near Potters Hill. The driver was trapped due to live power lines on the vehicle, with a K9 also inside.
