The Lenoir County Council on Aging hosted a nonpartisan political forum for candidates in the upcoming 2024 election. The forum featured state and local candidates who addressed both the short- and long-term needs of the aging population.

Kinston detectives charge 21-year-old in deadly Friday night shooting
On Monday, September 23, 2024, detectives from the Kinston Police Department secured warrants for 21-year-old Bryson Bradley of Lenoir County. He is charged in connection with the murder of Korie Williams and the attempted murder of Yahmmek Coward, Lyasia Lawson, and Deshakeen Turnage.
Charters of Freedom unveiled at Jones County Civic Center
A new Charters of Freedom setting has been unveiled at the Jones County Civic Center, bringing replicas of the United States' founding documents to the local community. The installation, a project of the nonprofit Foundation Forward, Inc., features replicas of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.

North Carolina's August Employment Figures Released
The state’s seasonally adjusted August 2024 unemployment rate was 3.8 percent, increasing 0.1 of a percentage point from July’s revised rate. The national rate decreased 0.1 of a percentage point to 4.2 percent.

Kinston shooting leaves one dead, one injured on S. McDaniels
On Friday, September 20, 2024, at approximately 8:50 pm, Kinston Police Officers responded to the 300 block of S. McDaniels St., Kinston, N.C., for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located two individuals who were suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

A Wilmington man was arrested Wednesday morning after Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered 647 grams of marijuana and Schedule I narcotics in his vehicle.

The Federal Reserve's recent decision to lower its key interest rate by 0.5 percentage points, two months before a presidential election, is expected to have a significant impact on the local housing market. The federal funds rate now stands at approximately 4.8%.

A 23-year-old Kinston man was arrested Wednesday in Deep Run for possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia.
