Timothy Sanderson celebrated as LCPS Beginning Teacher of the Year

On a usual day, Mr. Timothy Sanderson can usually be found at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School, teaching fifth-grade students the basics of energy, ecosystems and everything else that makes up a 5th-grade science class. That’s where the Lenoir County Public Schools leadership team found him Wednesday morning, helping students quiz each other on new vocabulary they’ve learned. 

Downtown board approves $25,000 for Façade Grants program

The Downtown Kinston Revitalization Board approved $25,000 in funds at its August meeting to support the Building Improvement Façade Grant. This matching grant program is designed to assist property owners within the Municipal Service District (MSD) in making improvements to the exterior of their buildings, encouraging investment and maintaining the appearance of the downtown area.

Arendell Parrott Academy Kicks Off 60th Year with Family and Tradition

Arendell Parrott Academy kicked off its 60th year Thursday with a Founders Day celebration featuring Susan Parrott, sister of the school’s namesake. Parrott shared stories of her family’s role in creating the school in memory of her late brother, Arendell. The ceremony also included the induction of the 2024-2025 Honor Council, honoring the Academy’s tradition of integrity. Dr. Ike Southerland, the longest-serving Head of School, reflected on the school’s growth and lasting legacy.

Dedication Ceremony for the Jones County Charters of Freedom Set for September 23rd at 1:00pm

TRENTON – The Declaration of Independence, United States Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Civil Rights Amendments are coming to Jones County thanks to the combined efforts of the County, working with Foundation Forward, Inc. of Burke County, NC.  These founding documents, known as The Charters of Freedom, are being permanently installed at the Jones County Civic Center, located at 832 NC Hwy 58 South, Trenton, NC 28585.
