SANFORD, N.C. - The following students have been named to the Central Carolina Community College President's List for the Spring 2024 semester, according to the CCCC Student Records and Registrar’s Office of the Student Onboarding and Success Division. Students named to the President's List received all A's in all classes, were registered for at least 12 semester hours, and received no incomplete grades.
On July 18th at 11:00 am, Kinston PD and Lenoir County Sheriff's Office will gather to assemble First Responder Kits4Kids. Thanks to the generous donation from the Lenoir County Alumni, officers are working together to support the community by equipping themselves with special kits for kids.
Lenoir County is currently under a flash flood warning. Multiple streets in downtown Kinston are impassable due to flooding. Areas of Hwy 11 N and Hwy 11 S are also experiencing partial flooding, which is impacting vehicle passage. Two vehicles have become stranded in flood waters on Hwy 11 N in front of Covation Bio plant. The public is urged to use extreme caution when traveling and to never drive through flooded waters.

PINK HILL - A recent legislative change has validated the mixed beverage referendum held in Pink Hill during the November 2022 election. Initially declared invalid due to the town not meeting the required 300 registered voters, the town had only 281, the will of the people is now upheld. Senate Bill 527, signed by Governor Roy Cooper on Monday, lowers the requirement to 200 registered voters and retroactively took effect on November 1, 2022.

On Friday, July 5, 2024, A-Squad Officers received information related to a stolen vehicle being driven around Kinston. The vehicle had previously been reported stolen to Green County Sheriff's Office. Officers located the vehicle on the 1500 block of Dr. MLK Jr Blvd and made contact with the driver, (17 year old juvenile from Kinston) and took him into custody. With the assistance of Green County Sheriff's Office, the juvenile was transported to Green County and released to a parent.
On Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 12:00 pm, KPD's D-Squad observed a vehicle being operated on Vernon Avenue with fictious plates and illegal tint violations. Officers initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle and the driver, Okeith Parker (39 of Kinston) immediately fled. Officers pursed Parker until he came to a stop on the 800 block of Dixon Street. Parker began swallowing bags of suspected narcotics. Officers were able to gain entry into the vehicle, remove Parker, and effect the arrest.
Jones Senior High School HOSA (Future Health Professionals) students recently attended HOSA International Leadership Conference (ILC) in Houston, Texas. There were over 12,000 HOSA attendees at this conference from across the globe and the Jones Senior students had the opportunity to collaborate, network, and learn with numerous HOSA members from various states and countries.
