In major investment, officials break ground for military aircraft maintenance facility at N.C. Global TransPark

State, federal and local officials broke ground Tuesday on a North Carolina Global TransPark complex that the U.S. Navy will use to maintain and repair Navy and Marine Corps aircraft.

Officials said the U.S. Navy’s Fleet Readiness Center East, C-130 Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul complex will create more than 400 new jobs and generate $400 million in new investment for the region. The facility will expand the existing Fleet Readiness Center East, which is at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock and is the state’s largest employer east of Interstate 95. 

Boeing's potential acquisition of Spirit AeroSystems could impact Kinston's aerospace sector

According to multiple news outlets, Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems are in talks for a potential acquisition that could have significant implications for Kinston's aerospace industry. Boeing and Airbus have made substantial progress in dividing Spirit AeroSystems' programs, a critical aspect of unblocking the deal. Airbus is expected to acquire Spirit's plants in Kinston.

Lenoir County to host Fourth of July naturalization ceremony

On the Fourth of July 2024, the Lenoir County Historical Association will be hosting a Naturalization Ceremony for new citizens of the United States of America at Historic Harmony Hall. The event will begin at 10am that morning and will include dignitaries such as US Congressman Greg Murphy, Linda Sutton of the Lenoir County County Commissioners and the Mayor of Kinston, Don Hardy.
