La Grange man charged after shooting incident at J's Place
On February 3, 2024, at approximately 2:45 am, members of the Kinston Police Department were called to Jay’s Place, 110 W. Blount St. Kinston, N.C., to assist the staff with crowd control as a party was ending. Within minutes of officers arriving, a confrontation between patrons took place, and officers heard multiple shots being fired.
KPD arrests suspect in shooting that wounded local man
KPD Detectives obtained warrants on Zyshawn Smith (20) for Discharging a Firearm into Occupied Property Causing Serious Bodily Injury.
Ayden man arrested for narcotic impairment after collision
KPD Officers on A-Squad responded to a vehicle collision at Dr MLK JR Blvd & Beasley Street. Officer made contact with Bryan Burwell (27 of Ayden NC). Burwell, the driver of one of the vehicles, showed signs of impairment and evidence at the scene suggested it was drug related.

The following is a list of people who have recently passed away in Lenoir County:
Vehicle collides with structure; driver charged with DWI
A-Squad Officers responded to a vehicle collision (vehicle vs structure). Officers arrived on scene and conducted an investigation. Officers determined the driver, Koriey Davis (25) was Driving While Impaired (DWI) at the time of the crash. Davis was taken into custody for DWI and officers served 2 unrelated Orders for Arrest. Davis was placed in the LC Jail under a secured bond.

Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. introduced the Ensuring Pathways to Innovative Cures (EPIC) Act alongside Congressmen Don Davis (D-NC) and Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-KY). This legislation fixes the Inflation Reduction Act's small molecule “pill penalty,” to ensure continued R&D investments into small molecule medicines.

Unemployment rates (not seasonally adjusted) decreased in 95 of North Carolina’s counties in December 2023, increased in three, and remained unchanged in two. Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 5.9 percent while Buncombe County had the lowest at 2.4 percent.

A 65-year-old Deep Run man has been arrested by detectives with the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office following a three-month investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine into the county.

After winning the annual LCPS Spelling Bee for the past four years with champion spellers who eventually aged out, Woodington found a capable successor in Nikki Bellamy.
